About this Album

8 Mile: Music from and Inspired by the Motion Picture was released on October 29, 2002 on Shady and Interscope, as the soundtrack to the film inspired by Eminem's early years in Detroit's battle rap scene.[1] It debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 with about 702,000 copies in its first week and is certified six times platinum in the US.[1]

Alongside new Eminem recordings such as "Lose Yourself," the title track and "Rabbit Run," it gathered contributions from Jay-Z, Nas, Rakim, Gang Starr, 50 Cent, Obie Trice, Xzibit and Macy Gray. A companion collection, More Music from 8 Mile, collected 1990s tracks to match the film's 1995 setting.[1]

Critics were generally favorable: the album holds a Metacritic score of 74, and Rolling Stone later named it among the greatest soundtracks of all time.[1]
