Achtung Baby
About this Album
Achtung Baby, released in November 1991, was the sound of U2 dismantling its own image. Recording began at Hansa Studios in Berlin in October 1990, during German reunification, in an atmosphere the band found bleak, with tension over direction and a fear among some members that the group might not survive.[1] Bono and the Edge pushed toward dance, industrial and club textures, while the rhythm section was warier of drum machines and electronics.[2]
The sessions turned when the band wrote "One," which grew out of the Edge's chord experiments and came together quickly.[1][2] Brian Eno and Daniel Lanois produced, and the record was completed in Dublin, with final mixing at Windmill Lane in 1991.[1]
