Alvvays
About this Album
Alvvays is the debut album by the Canadian indie pop band of the same name, released on July 22, 2014 through Polyvinyl in the United States, Royal Mountain in Canada and Transgressive in Europe.[1]
The record was made in March 2013 at Yoko Eno, Chad VanGaalen's studio in Calgary, with VanGaalen producing and engineering. John Agnello mixed it, and Greg Calbi and Steve Fallone mastered it.[1] Its nine songs blend jangle pop, dream pop and twee influences into a short, bright collection.[1]
Critics responded warmly. The album holds a Metacritic score of 78, AllMusic called it a collection of nearly perfect indie pop, and it was shortlisted for the 2015 Polaris Music Prize.[1] It topped CBC Music's list of the best Canadian albums of 2014.[1] Four singles were released, led by Archie, Marry Me, which became the band's breakthrough.[1]
