American Football
About this Album
American Football's self-titled debut was released on September 14, 1999, on Polyvinyl Record Co.[1] It was made in about a week, just after the members graduated from college, and consists of nine songs.[2] The members chose to quit before the record was finished, and it came out with no release show or tour.[2]
It built a cult following through word of mouth, and its cover, a house at 704 W. High Street in Urbana, became one of emo's best-known images.[2] A deluxe reissue and a 2014 reunion followed.[2]
Opening track "Never Meant" was recorded in May 1999 and is widely considered one of the most influential emo songs.[1]
