About this Album
Blue Rev is the third studio album by Alvvays, released on October 7, 2022 through Polyvinyl, Transgressive and Celsius Girls[1]. It followed Antisocialites by about five years, a gap filled by a studio flood, the replacement of the rhythm section, pandemic border closures and a break-in that cost Molly Rankin a recorder full of demos[2][1].
The band recorded in Los Angeles in late 2021 with Shawn Everett, playing the whole album through twice in a single day[1]. The result is denser and more shoegaze-leaning than their earlier work, with songs about young adulthood, desire and doubt.
Blue Rev earned a Pitchfork Best New Music designation, a Metacritic average of 86, the 2023 Juno Award for Alternative Album of the Year, and a Polaris Music Prize shortlist spot[1].
