Clean

Clean is the debut studio album by Soccer Mommy (Sophie Allison), released March 2, 2018, on Fat Possum Records. It followed several bedroom-recorded EPs and the 2017 compilation Collection, and marked her move to a full-band sound with better recording equipment. Reviewers praised its balance of thoughtfulness and youthful ease, and NME called it a dazzling and devastating triumph. The lead single was Your Dog, released in January 2018.

Gabe Wax produced the record, with Julian Powell on lead guitar and Nick Brown on drums.^[1] Critics have heard it as a breakup album that moves through infatuation, betrayal, insecurity, and acceptance, and Allison has described it as being about accepting that you cannot deny your feelings.^[1] Its sound blends 1990s alternative rock with glossy pop melody, a mix some writers dubbed bubblegrunge, and it moves between intimate acoustic tracks and heavier, grunge-tinged band arrangements.^[2] It holds a Metacritic average of 78 and appeared on many 2018 year-end lists.^[1]
