About this Album
Designer is the third album by New Zealand singer-songwriter Aldous Harding, released on 26 April 2019 through 4AD, with Flying Nun also credited.
It was recorded at Rockfield Studios in Wales with producer John Parish, who also played on and mixed the record. The nine songs are all written by Harding, and the band includes H. Hawkline, Gwion Llewelyn, Stephen Black and Clare Mactaggart.
Harding described the record as warmer and more relaxed than its predecessor Party, with more space in the arrangements and her voice sitting further back in the mix, closer to holding hands than sitting in the dark. Reviewers noticed the lighter, fuller sound, and the album earned an 88 on Metacritic. The single The Barrel won the 2019 APRA Silver Scroll, and the album was a finalist for the 2020 Taite Music Prize.
