About this Album

Dongs of Sevotion is the 2000 album by Smog, the recording name of Bill Callahan. It was released on April 4, 2000 in North America by Drag City, with a European release on Domino a day earlier, and it runs eleven tracks across about sixty-one minutes.[1]

It followed Knock Knock, Callahan's first full-band record, and was recorded with Tortoise drummer John McEntire, with guitarist Jeff Parker and bassist Matt Lux among the players.[1][2] Stereogum describes the music as both meditative and bombastic, with sex and death as its main subjects.[2]

Critics responded warmly. Pitchfork scored it 9.3 out of 10 and ranked it tenth among the best albums of 2000, and Metacritic reports an average of 85 from ten reviews.[1] Callahan returned to sparser production on later records.[2]
