Ek Villain
About this Album
Ek Villain is the soundtrack to Mohit Suri's 2014 revenge thriller of the same name, released on 28 May 2014 under T-Series. The six-track album blends soulful romantic ballads with heavier fusion elements, continuing Suri's established pattern of building his films around slow, string-heavy love songs rather than conventional item numbers.
Mithoon contributed three of the album's songs, including "Humdard," sung by Arijit Singh, reuniting the composer with the singer he had first paired on "Tum Hi Ho" from Aashiqui 2 the previous year. The soundtrack also includes "Galliyan," one of the year's biggest hits alongside "Humdard," and "Banjaara."
Critically, the album was well received, with reviewers crediting Suri's consistent ear for melody-driven soundtracks. Arijit Singh received a Star Guild Award nomination for Best Playback Singer (Male) for his performance of "Humdard." The film itself, starring Sidharth Malhotra, Shraddha Kapoor, and Riteish Deshmukh in his first negative role, grossed roughly ₹170 crore worldwide against a ₹39 crore budget, and its soundtrack was a major driver of that commercial success.
