About this Album

Hiding Places is the 2019 collaborative album by Brooklyn rapper billy woods and Los Angeles producer Kenny Segal, released March 29, 2019 on Backwoodz Studioz. Segal produced every track, with guests including Elucid, Self Jupiter and Mothermary. Its titles (Checkpoints, Spider Hole, Crawlspace, Red Dust) circle around concealment, fear and waiting, and it landed on 2019 year-end lists at NPR, Stereogum, Time and Vice.

Critics heard an opening run of snarling, serrated guitars and a mood of concealment, decay and unease.[1][2] Segal's production has been described as a heavy lurch of detuned guitars and drowning synths, with Pitchfork scoring the album 7.7 out of 10.[3][4] The cover is a 2006 photograph of a crumbling Detroit mansion, the William Livingstone House.[4]
