Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania
About this Album
Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania is the soundtrack to the 2014 Dharma Productions romantic comedy of the same name, starring Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt. The album was assembled from two composing camps, Sachin-Jigar and the duo Sharib-Toshi, with lyrics contributed by Kumaar, Irshad Kamil, and Ahmad Anees, and released through Sony Music India on June 19, 2014.[1].
Its centerpiece and biggest hit, "Samjhawan," was not written for the film at all. The track reworks "Main Tenu Samjhawan Ki," a 2010 composition by Sahir Ali Bagga for the Punjabi film Virsa, originally sung by Rahat Fateh Ali Khan and Farah Anwar. Sharib-Toshi rearranged the melody for Arijit Singh and Shreya Ghoshal, while a separate acoustic "unplugged" version, sung solely by lead actress Alia Bhatt, was released as its own single soon after[2].
The album's broader identity leans into the film's story of a whirlwind romance colliding with family expectation: alongside the aching "Samjhawan," the soundtrack carries brasher, celebratory tracks built for the film's Delhi-set courtship, giving the record a tonal split between giddy pursuit and the quieter dread of a relationship that might not survive an arranged marriage.
