About this Album

I Can Hear the Heart Beating as One is Yo La Tengo's eighth studio album, released by Matador Records on April 22, 1997. It was produced by Roger Moutenot and recorded at House of David in Nashville, with mixing in New York City.[1]

At sixteen tracks and just over sixty-eight minutes, it expands the guitar pop of Electr-o-Pura into bossa nova, krautrock, electronic music and psychedelic folk, with most of the lyrics leaning melancholy. It also marks the debut of Ira Kaplan's falsetto.[1]

The album was widely praised, became the band's first Billboard chart entry, and placed fifth in the 1997 Village Voice Pazz & Jop poll. It is often considered their best work.[1]
