Infidels
About this Album
Infidels is Bob Dylan's 22nd studio album, released on October 27, 1983, by Columbia Records and produced by Mark Knopfler and Dylan.[1] It is widely read as his return to secular songwriting after the born-again Christian period, although religious imagery runs through it.[1]
Sessions took place in April and May 1983 at the Power Station in New York, with Knopfler, Mick Taylor, Alan Clark, Benmont Tench and the reggae rhythm section of Sly Dunbar and Robbie Shakespeare.[1] The songs range across love and loss, environmental concern, geopolitics and the offshoring of work, and the album includes the singles "Sweetheart Like You" and "Jokerman".[1]
Outtakes "Blind Willie McTell" and "Foot of Pride" were dropped before release, and Knopfler later said he wished he had done the final mix himself.[1] Critics praised the songwriting and it reached number 20 in the US and number 9 in the UK, going gold in the US.[1]
