Jawan
About this Album
The Jawan Original Motion Picture Soundtrack is the debut Hindi film score by Tamil composer Anirudh Ravichander, released in full on September 5, 2023. The album accompanied director Atlee Kumar's Hindi directorial debut, a social action blockbuster produced by Gauri Khan and starring Shah Rukh Khan in a dual role.[1]
Anirudh, already one of Tamil cinema's most celebrated composers, used the Jawan soundtrack to introduce his musical sensibility to a pan-Indian audience. The album draws on his characteristic ability to blend South Indian melodic traditions with contemporary global pop production, and features lyrics in Hindi (by Kumaar and Irshad Kamil), Tamil (by Vivek and Arivu), and Telugu (by Chandrabose).[1][2]
The album produced four pre-release singles: "Zinda Banda," "Chaleya," "Not Ramaiya Vastavaiya," and an Arabic version of "Chaleya." Both "Zinda Banda" and "Not Ramaiya Vastavaiya" set records for the most-viewed Indian song within 24 hours of release, while "Chaleya" became the fastest Indian song to cross 100 million streams on Spotify India.[3]
Thematically, the soundtrack reflects the film's dual nature: high-energy action anthems like "Zinda Banda" and "Not Ramaiya Vastavaiya" alternate with the more intimate romantic sensibility of "Chaleya." This contrast mirrors the film's own balance between social urgency and personal feeling. The soundtrack received widespread critical acclaim, with reviewers praising Anirudh's ability to match the scale of a major Hindi production while retaining his distinctive melodic identity.[2]
At the 71st National Film Awards, "Chaleya" singer Shilpa Rao won the award for Best Female Playback Singer, providing formal recognition of the soundtrack's critical standing.[1]
