About this Album

Kesari is the soundtrack album for the 2019 Bollywood historical war film of the same name, directed by Anurag Singh and produced by Karan Johar under Dharma Productions.[1] The film dramatises the Battle of Saragarhi (12 September 1897), in which 21 Sikh soldiers of the British Indian Army made a legendary last stand against an estimated 10,000 tribesmen on the North-West Frontier.[2]

The album was released in March 2019 under Zee Music Company. It blends Punjabi folk traditions, Sufi-inflected romanticism, and Afghan-influenced instrumentation to reflect the film's geographic and cultural setting on the frontier between India and Afghanistan. Compositions range from patriotic anthems to intimate love songs, with standout tracks including the romantic duet "Ve Maahi" (performed by Arijit Singh and Asees Kaur, composed and written by Tanishk Bagchi) and the stirring patriotic ballad "Teri Mitti" (performed by B Praak, written by Manoj Muntashir).[1]

"Teri Mitti" won the National Film Award for Best Male Playback Singer for B Praak. The album as a whole won the Mirchi Music Award for Album of the Year and was nominated for five Filmfare Awards, three IIFA Awards, and six Zee Cine Awards (winning Song of the Year for "Ve Maahi").[1]
