About this Album

Love is the fourth Amen Dunes album, released on May 13, 2014 on Sacred Bones Records.[1] It was recorded across five studios, three in Brooklyn and two in Montreal, with guests including members of Godspeed You! Black Emperor, saxophonist Colin Stetson, and Elias Bender Rønnenfelt of Iceage.[1][2]

After the murk of earlier records, Damon McMahon aimed for a brighter, more direct sound shaped by 1960s folk, spiritual jazz, and soul, and he has pointed to Astral Weeks as a model for its ambition.[3][4] A long relationship ended as recording began, and the album circles devotion, memory, and the loss of self.[4] Critics responded warmly, and it holds a Metacritic score of 81.[1]
