Love Aaj Kal (February 14, 2020) is the soundtrack to Imtiaz Ali's film of the same name, released under Sony Music India with music composed by Pritam Chakraborty and lyrics by Irshad Kamil. The album anchors a film that weaves two parallel love stories across different decades, one set in 1990s Udaipur and one in contemporary Delhi, both exploring the tension between romantic commitment and personal ambition.[1]
The title track "Shayad," sung by Arijit Singh, was released on January 22, 2020, three weeks before the film's Valentine's Day premiere, and became the album's defining statement. While the film itself received mixed-to-negative critical reviews, the soundtrack was widely praised, earning nominations at the Filmfare Awards, IIFA Awards, and Mirchi Music Awards.[2]
The album reflects the long-standing creative partnership between Imtiaz Ali, Pritam, and Irshad Kamil, a trio who have collaborated on Ali's films since Jab We Met (2007).
