About this Album
New Long Leg is the 2021 debut album by Dry Cleaning, released on 4AD. It was produced by John Parish, best known for his work with PJ Harvey, and recorded at Rockfield Studios in Wales.[3] Reviewers noted new textures such as drum machines and more tempo shifts than on the band's earlier EPs.[3]
Critics described it as broader and sunnier than the earlier EPs, and as a playful alternative to serious post-punk.[1][3] The record resists a single narrative or theme, favoring observational, collage-like lyrics delivered in Florence Shaw's deadpan spoken voice.[2] It opens with "Scratchcard Lanyard".[1]
Its second single, "Strong Feelings", arrived in February 2021 with a video directed by guitarist Tom Dowse, and the song later appeared in a Chanel runway show.[1]
Shaw has said the album title is deliberately ambiguous: a new long leg could be an expensive present, a growth or a table repair.[2]
