About this Album

Painted Shut is the second album by Philadelphia band Hop Along, released on Saddle Creek on May 5, 2015.[1] It was recorded over about a month in the fall at Headroom Studio in Kensington with producer John Agnello, and Frances Quinlan painted the cover art herself.[2]

The ten songs were mostly written before sessions began, a quicker process than the debut Get Disowned.[2] Critics praised Quinlan's shifting vocals and storytelling, and discussed themes of abuse, poverty and power, with one reviewer arguing the record is better read as working-class than emo.[3][4]
