About this Album
Pearl is the second solo album by Janis Joplin and her fourth overall, credited to Janis Joplin and the Full Tilt Boogie Band. It was recorded at Sunset Sound in Hollywood between late July and early October 1970 and produced by Paul Rothchild, who had worked with the Doors and gave the record a more polished sound than her earlier work.[1]
Joplin died on October 4, 1970, and the album appeared three months later, on January 11, 1971. It reached number one on the Billboard 200 for nine weeks, carried the hit "Me and Bobby McGee," and ended with an unaccompanied take of "Mercedes Benz," the last song she recorded.[1]
