About this Album
Philadelphia: Music from the Motion Picture collects songs written and recorded for Jonathan Demme's 1993 drama about a lawyer with AIDS who sues his firm for dismissing him. The soundtrack appeared in early 1994, after the film's December 1993 release.[2]
Its best-known track is Bruce Springsteen's "Streets of Philadelphia," a spare, drum-machine-driven ballad that became the lead single and won the Academy Award and Golden Globe for Best Original Song.[1][2]
Demme had hoped for a guitar-driven rock anthem. Springsteen delivered something hushed and inward, and the filmmakers kept it.[2]
