About this Album

Pink Moon is Nick Drake's third and final studio album, released by Island Records on 25 February 1972. It was recorded on 30 and 31 October 1971 at Sound Techniques in London with engineer John Wood, in overnight sessions after the studio's daytime bookings[1].

The record is almost entirely Drake's voice and acoustic guitar, with a single piano melody overdubbed on the title track[1]. Drake reportedly handed the master tapes to Island's Chris Blackwell without announcing a new album[1]. It sold poorly in his lifetime and drew mixed early reviews, but later critics came to rank it among the great albums of the 1970s. U.S. sales rose sharply after a 1999 Volkswagen commercial used the title track[1].
