Rush (soundtrack)

Eric Clapton composed and performed the score for Rush, a 1991 crime drama about undercover narcotics officers descending into addiction while working an assignment. Rather than a conventional soundtrack of licensed songs, the album is largely Clapton's own instrumental guitar work, threaded with a handful of vocal tracks he wrote for the film.

Clapton took the scoring job in early 1991 while still reeling from personal crisis, and the sessions became inseparable from his own life. After his four-year-old son Conor died in March 1991, Clapton and co-writer Will Jennings wrote "Tears in Heaven" for a scene in the film, alongside "Help Me Up" and the Buddy Guy collaboration "Don't Know Which Way to Go." The soundtrack was released on January 14, 1992, reached number 24 on the Billboard 200, and went gold in the United States and Canada, driven almost entirely by the runaway success of its lead single.
