So Far
About this Album
Released on August 19, 1974, So Far is a greatest-hits compilation spanning the full catalog of Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young up to that point. Atlantic Records assembled it to coincide with a highly anticipated CSNY reunion stadium tour, the first time all four members had performed together since 1970.
The album draws from the group's two studio albums (Crosby, Stills and Nash from 1969 and Deja Vu from 1970) and adds the 1970 single "Ohio" paired with its B-side "Find the Cost of Freedom," as well as Joni Mitchell's "Woodstock" in the CSNY arrangement. The cover art was painted by Joni Mitchell. So Far reached number one on the US Billboard charts and has been certified six times platinum by the RIAA.
Notably, So Far marked the first appearance of the studio recording of "Ohio" on any album; the song had previously existed only as a standalone single since its rush release in June 1970. The compilation serves as both a commercial document of the reunion moment and a monument to what CSNY had accomplished in their brief initial run from 1969 to 1970.
