Suicide: Alan Vega and Martin Rev

About this Album

Suicide's second album was recorded at the Power Station in January 1980 and released that May on ZE Records, with Ric Ocasek of The Cars producing without pay[1]. Ocasek gave Martin Rev new equipment, much of it unfamiliar to him, while Alan Vega concentrated on vocals[1]. ZE's Michael Zilkha had wanted a more danceable sound and reportedly pointed Ocasek toward Donna Summer's "I Feel Love" as a model[1].

Critics received it well. NME named it one of the year's best albums, and AllMusic's Andy Kellman judged it arguably better and more realized than the debut[1]. The non-album single "Dream Baby Dream" (1979) was not on the original release and appears only as a bonus track on the 2000 Mute reissue, retitled The Second Album[1].
