About this Album

Super Trouper is the seventh studio album by the Swedish pop group ABBA, released on 3 November 1980 through Polar Music.[1] It was the last album recorded while Benny Andersson and Anni-Frid Lyngstad were still married, since the two divorced in 1981.[1]

Björn Ulvaeus and Andersson wrote the first batch of songs in Barbados in January 1980 and recorded at Polar Studios in Stockholm, with further sessions in June and September and the title track written in the studio in October.[1] The lead single, The Winner Takes It All, partly reflects the end of Ulvaeus's marriage to Agnetha Fältskog.[1] Other tracks range from the electro-disco of Lay All Your Love on Me to a lyric inspired by a Stephen King novel.[1]

Following the disco backlash, the album returned to a more straightforward pop sound than the dance-oriented Voulez-Vous.[1] It was the best-selling album in the United Kingdom in 1980 and has reportedly sold over eight million copies worldwide.[1]
