Ten
About this Album
Ten is Pearl Jam's debut studio album, released by Epic Records on August 27, 1991. It was recorded in March and April 1991 at London Bridge Studios in Seattle with producer Rick Parashar, and mixed in England by Tim Palmer.[1]
The band grew out of the aftermath of Mother Love Bone, whose singer Andrew Wood died in 1990. Guitarist Stone Gossard and bassist Jeff Ament teamed with guitarist Mike McCready, recorded instrumental demos, and brought in Eddie Vedder, who wrote lyrics and became the singer.[1]
The record blends grunge, alternative rock and hard rock with a strong classic rock streak, and its lyrics return to depression, loneliness, homelessness and violence. It was slow to catch on, then peaked at number two on the Billboard 200 and was certified thirteen times platinum.[1] A remixed edition by Brendan O'Brien accompanied a 2009 remaster.[1]
