Swift announced "Patient Zero" as a single days before release, then revealed it was part of a larger set. She described the new songs as born out of gratitude for the response to the original album.[2][3]
Critical reaction was mixed. Clash gave it 4 out of 10 and called it an add-on no one asked for,[5] while Ratings Game Music scored it 4 out of 5 and praised its catchy Max Martin style pop.[6]
