Under the Pink

Released on January 31, 1994, Under the Pink was Tori Amos second solo album, recorded largely in a converted 150-year-old adobe hacienda in Taos, New Mexico that Amos and her then-boyfriend and producer Eric Rosse nicknamed the fish house, after their gear arrived shipped alongside crates of seafood.

The album expanded on the piano-driven confessional style of her debut with more cryptic lyrics and looser song structures, layering in reggae rhythm on Cornflake Girl, prepared piano on Bells for Her, and Debussy-inflected runs on Yes, Anastasia, while continuing to probe religion, gender, and sexuality.

It debuted at number one on the UK Albums Chart and reached number 12 in the United States, propelled by the international hit Cornflake Girl, and was produced entirely by Rosse, whom Amos split from shortly after its release.
