XO
About this Album
XO is Elliott Smith's fourth studio album and his major-label debut, released on August 25, 1998, by DreamWorks Records.[1] Serious work began in early 1998 in Los Angeles with producers Rob Schnapf and Tom Rothrock, after earlier sessions at Larry Crane's Jackpot studio in Portland.[1]
The larger budget allowed ambitions such as a double string quartet,[2] and retrospectives describe the record as an orchestral pop leap inspired by lush 1970s singer-songwriter albums.[3] It peaked at number 104 on the US Billboard 200.[1]
