Biography
black midi were an English experimental rock band formed in London in 2017 by Geordie Greep, Matt Kwasniewski-Kelvin, and Morgan Simpson, who met at the BRIT School, with bassist Cameron Picton joining them[1]. They played their first gig at The Windmill in Brixton in June 2017 and became a leading act of the scene around that venue[1].
They debuted in 2018 on Dan Carey's Speedy Wunderground label and signed to Rough Trade in January 2019. Their debut album Schlagenheim arrived in June 2019, followed by Cavalcade in May 2021 and Hellfire in July 2022[1]. In August 2024 the band went on indefinite hiatus while members pursued other projects[1].
Guitarist Matt Kwasniewski-Kelvin took a break for his mental health before Cavalcade, leaving Greep, Picton and Simpson as the core trio, with saxophonist Kaidi Akinnibi and keyboardist Seth Evans joining the sessions.[2]
