Biography

Camp Cope were an Australian indie rock and punk trio formed in Melbourne in 2015, made up of Georgia Maq on vocals and guitar, Kelly-Dawn Hellmrich on bass, and Sarah Thompson on drums.[1]

They released three albums on Poison City Records: Camp Cope (2016), How to Socialise & Make Friends (2018), and Running with the Hurricane (2022).[1] The third takes its name from a song by the folk group Redgum, whose member Hugh McDonald was Maq's late father.[1]

The band became known for outspoken criticism of sexism in the music industry. After speaking publicly about sexism and assault, they said parts of the Melbourne punk scene turned against them, and they built their own audience instead.[2] They announced in 2023 that they would disband and played their last show at the Sydney Opera House on 13 October 2023.[1]
