Biography

Cat Burns (Catrina Burns-Temison) is a British singer-songwriter born in Streatham, South London, on 6 June 2000. Her mother is of Jamaican descent and her father is Nigerian, and she grew up on gospel, citing Kirk Franklin, Donnie McClurkin and Marvin Sapp alongside Destiny's Child and Anne-Marie as influences.[1]

She attended the BRIT School in Croydon and self-released her debut EP, Adolescent, at sixteen. After the EP Naïve in 2019, her song "Go" went viral on TikTok during the 2020 lockdown, leading to a deal with RCA imprint Since 93. It reached number two on the UK singles chart in 2022.[1] Her debut album, early twenties (2024), was nominated for the Mercury Prize, and she has received three Brit Award nominations.[1]

Burns is a lesbian and has spoken about reconciling her sexuality with her identity as a Black woman. She has ADHD and was diagnosed as autistic in 2023.[1] In 2025 she appeared on the first series of The Celebrity Traitors, reaching the final, and released her second album, How to Be Human. Her October 2026 single "Is It That Deep?" was written with Chris Thomas and produced by Kurisu.[1][2]
