Biography
Claire Elizabeth Cottrill, known as Clairo, was born on August 18, 1998, in Atlanta, Georgia, and grew up largely in Carlisle, Massachusetts[1]. She taught herself guitar through online tutorials and began posting music as a teenager[1].
Her lo-fi 2017 single "Pretty Girl" went viral on YouTube. After a brief stint at Syracuse University's Bandier Program she left to focus on music, signed with Fader Label and released the EP Diary 001 in 2018[1]. She came out as bisexual on Twitter that year[1].
Her debut album Immunity followed in 2019 and included "Sofia," her first Billboard Hot 100 entry[1]. She went on to release Sling (2021, co-produced by Jack Antonoff) and the self-released Charm (2024, co-produced by Leon Michels), which earned a Grammy nomination for Best Alternative Music Album[1].
