Biography
Cola is a post-punk and indie rock trio from Montreal, Quebec, made up of Tim Darcy (vocals, guitar), Ben Stidworthy (bass) and Evan Cartwright (drums).[1]
Darcy and Stidworthy previously played together in Ought. They began writing with Cartwright, of U.S. Girls, in late 2019, with Darcy and Stidworthy in Montreal and Cartwright in Toronto, trading lyrics and ideas through 2020 and 2021. In November 2021, Ought announced its breakup and Cola was announced the same day.[1]
Their debut Deep in View appeared in May 2022, followed by The Gloss in June 2024, both on Fire Talk Records.[1][2] For the second album Cartwright became a full songwriting member, and Darcy has described his role as that of a musician rather than a rock-star frontman, drawing lyrical inspiration from poets such as John Ashbery.[3][4]
