Hatchie

PersonFormed 1993

Biography

Hatchie is the project of Australian singer-songwriter Harriette Pilbeam, born in Brisbane in 1993[1]. She studied the music business in college and played bass in Go Violets and Babaganouj before going solo[1].

Her song "Try" was uploaded to Triple J Unearthed in 2017, led to a management deal, and brought a run of label signings, including Double Double Whammy and Heavenly Recordings[1]. Her debut EP, Sugar & Spice, followed in 2018, and her debut album, Keepsake, in 2019[1].

She names the Cocteau Twins, Belly, Lush and My Bloody Valentine among her influences, though she resists being labeled a shoegaze artist[2]. Music ran through her family, and she and her three siblings all sang in choirs[2].
