Biography

Indigo De Souza is a singer-songwriter from Asheville, North Carolina, known for confessional songwriting that moves between grungy rock and polished pop.[1]

Her debut album was I Love My Mom, followed by Any Shape You Take (2021), her first record for Saddle Creek and her first made in a professional studio with producer Brad Cook. Her mother, the painter Kimberly Oberhammer, created the cover art for both albums.[1][2]

The second album followed the end of a long relationship, the loss of bandmates and struggles with mental health, and it finds a more supportive footing in community, body acceptance and self-love. Songs like Hold U celebrate non-romantic care and chosen family.[1][3]

De Souza wrote "Kill Me", the lead single from Any Shape You Take, in 2018, while consumed by an all-encompassing relationship and coming to terms with living with mental illness. She has said the song helps her feel less afraid of making art and lets listeners recognize their own feelings.[4][5]
