Biography

Jessie Reyez is a Colombian-Canadian singer-songwriter from Toronto, born on June 12, 1991[2]. Her father introduced her to guitar, and she began writing songs in high school in Brampton, skipping college to work odd jobs while pursuing music. In 2012 her family moved to Florida, where she bartended and busked on the beach, and in 2014 she returned to Toronto to join a recording arts program[2].

Her 2017 EP Kiddo, accompanied by a short film about sexism and exploitation in the industry, led to an Island Records deal and the 2018 Breakthrough Artist Juno. Being Human in Public earned a Grammy nomination in 2020, and her debut album Before Love Came to Kill Us followed that March[2]. She has written for artists including Calvin Harris, and her albums YESSIE (2022), Paid In Memories (2025) and A Little Vengeance (2026) trace a path from heartbreak toward healing[2],[4]. In late 2026 she was reported to be planning a break from music[1].
