Biography
Pulp are an English band from Sheffield, formed in 1978 at The City School by Jarvis Cocker and Peter Dalton[1].
Cocker was fifteen when the band began. The name came from a commodities listing in the Financial Times, after his first choice, taken from a Michael Caine film, was judged too short[1].
The group spent the 1980s with little commercial success, releasing the mini-album It in 1982 before a reshaped line-up signed with Fire Records[1]. Their breakthrough came with Common People in 1995 and the album Different Class, which won the 1996 Mercury Prize[2].
