Biography
The Mountain Goats are an American indie folk band led by singer-songwriter John Darnielle, known for dense, literate songwriting. Darnielle grew up in San Luis Obispo and Claremont, California.[1] Beginning with We Shall All Be Healed, and especially on The Sunset Tree (2005, 4AD), his songs turned partly autobiographical, drawing on a childhood marked by an abusive stepfather.[1][2]
