Biography
This Is Lorelei is the recording name of Nate Amos, a singer, songwriter, and producer born January 8, 1991, in St. Johnsbury, Vermont[1]. He grew up on a rural mountainside in a musical household; his father, Bob Amos, is a working bluegrass guitarist, and his sister Sarah also performs[1]. Amos began releasing music under his own name around 2012 before relocating to Chicago and adopting the This Is Lorelei alias around 2013, using it as an outlet for prolific, diaristic home recordings across dozens of mixtapes and EPs[1].
In 2015 Amos met Rachel Brown and co-founded the indie pop duo Water From Your Eyes, where he serves as guitarist and producer alongside his solo work[1]. His breakthrough as This Is Lorelei came with 2024's Box for Buddy, Box for Star, his first intentionally sequenced full-length, followed by Holo Boy in 2025[1]. He signed to Matador Records in May 2026 and released his third studio album, The Singer in My Band, on September 11, 2026, recorded at his home studio in Brooklyn and written largely while touring[1][2]. The album brought his family full circle into the project, with his father contributing banjo and his sister contributing vocals on the title track[3].
