Biography
Tobechukwu Dubem Nwigwe was born in 1987 and raised in the Alief area of Houston, Texas, by Igbo Nigerian parents.[1][2] He played football at the University of North Texas until a foot injury ended his professional hopes, then turned to music.[1][2]
He founded the nonprofit TeamGINI, released his debut project in 2014, and built an audience from 2016 with a weekly song and video habit; a viral 2020 song about Breonna Taylor widened it.[2] He has earned a Grammy nomination for Best New Artist and an Emmy nomination, and has acted in the series Mo and in Transformers: Rise of the Beasts.[2]
Married to Martica "Fat" Nwigwe, a frequent collaborator, he describes growing up too African for Houston and too Houston for Africa, an experience that shapes his 2026 album THE BRIDGE.[3]
