Biography
Viagra Boys are a Swedish post-punk band formed in Stockholm in 2015.[1] Several founding members had played in other Stockholm bands, and the group has since mixed art punk, dance-punk, garage punk, and cowpunk, drawing on The Fall, Devo, the Stooges, and Captain Beefheart.[1]
Frontman Sebastian Murphy is an American from San Rafael, California, who moved to Stockholm at seventeen. He was working as a tattoo artist and struggling with drug and alcohol use when he joined, and he writes most of the lyrics, which he has described as part act and part diary.[1]
Their debut album, Street Worms (2018), won the IMPALA Album of the Year award in 2019. Welfare Jazz followed in 2021, Cave World in 2022, and Viagr Aboys in 2025 on their own Shrimptech Enterprises label.[1] Guitarist Benjamin Vallé, a founding member, died in 2021.[1] The band won the Grammis award for Rock of the Year in 2023.[1]
