Biography

Waxahatchee is the project of singer-songwriter Katie Crutchfield, born January 4, 1989 and raised in Alabama.[1] The name comes from Waxahatchee Creek, near her childhood home.[1]

Before going solo she played in P.S. Eliot with her twin sister Allison.[1] After that band ended she began Waxahatchee in 2010 as an acoustic solo project, which later grew into a full band.[1]

Her albums include American Weekend (2012), Cerulean Salt (2013), Ivy Tripp (2015), Out in the Storm (2017), Saint Cloud (2020), and Tigers Blood (2024), the last of which was nominated for the 2025 Grammy Award for Best Americana Album.[1] She has released music on labels including Don Giovanni, Wichita, Merge, Anti-, and Dead Oceans.[1]

Crutchfield got sober before writing Saint Cloud, an album produced by Brad Cook that turned toward country-tinged, voice-forward songwriting influenced by Lucinda Williams, Linda Ronstadt, and Emmylou Harris.[2][3] She co-leads the alternative country duo Plains with Jess Williamson, and lives with songwriter Kevin Morby in Kansas.[1]
