About this Album

A Crow Looked at Me is the 2017 album by Phil Elverum, released under the Mount Eerie name on his own label, P. W. Elverum & Sun Ltd. It was written and recorded between late August and early December 2016 in the Anacortes, Washington room where his wife, the artist and musician Geneviève Castrée, had died that July.[1] Elverum used a single microphone and a laptop, along with some of her instruments.

The songs address her and the couple's young daughter in roughly chronological order, abandoning the hazy production of his earlier work for plain, close-up statement.[2] The album earned widespread acclaim and is his best-selling record.[1]
