About this Album

The Fray's fifth studio album and first full-length record in twelve years, A Light That Waits was released March 13, 2026 on The Orchard. It marks the band's first album as a trio following the 2022 departure of founding vocalist Isaac Slade, and the first on which remaining members Joe King, Dave Welsh, and Ben Wysocki co-wrote every track together from scratch.

The album organizes itself around a central metaphor of patient hope: something luminous and steady persisting through long stretches of uncertainty. King has described the album's genesis as a spontaneous creative discovery, with the title phrase crystallizing during an early writing session in Ben Wysocki's Denver studio. The record explores themes of perseverance, emotional renewal, and the complex inner life that love both stirs and illuminates.

Critical reception was mixed. Some reviewers noted agreeable melodies and sincere ambition while questioning whether the trio could sustain the band's legacy without Slade's vocal presence. Others found the album a credible and hopeful restart. It was supported by the Summer of Light Tour, co-headlining with Dashboard Confessional across North American dates.
