About this Album

Analphabetapolothology is a double-disc anthology released by Jade Tree on January 8, 1998, three years after Cap'n Jazz broke up.[2] It collects the band's complete full-length, songs from their EPs and compilation appearances, live recordings, unreleased outtakes and demos, and runs nearly one hundred minutes.[2]

The title was meant to be a much longer, more precise portmanteau of "anthology". Tim Kinsella typed it during the layout session and only noticed weeks later, after printing, that he had mangled it.[2] It is pronounced roughly "an alphabet apology".[2]

Contemporary reviewers praised the collection's wordplay and the way the singer sang, yelled, strained and broke.[4] Pitchfork gave it 8.5 out of 10 and Punknews.org gave it five stars.[2] The album opens with "Little League," the first track from the band's 1995 album.[2]
