Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain
About this Album
Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain is the second album by Pavement, released on Matador Records on February 14, 1994. It was recorded in August and September 1993 in New York City and Stockton, California, with the band producing, and it was the first album to feature drummer Steve West[1].
Compared with the hissy lo-fi debut Slanted and Enchanted, it is cleaner and more melodic, blending California folk-rock and psychedelia with the bands noisier instincts[1]. It reached number 15 on the UK Albums Chart and sold around 500,000 copies by 2009.
Reviews were strong, with Spin giving it 9 out of 10 and Robert Christgau an A. It has been called the quintessential slacker rock album, and Pitchfork ranked it eighth on its list of the best albums of the 1990s[1]. "Cut Your Hair" was its lead single.
