About this Album

Light Upon the Lake is the debut album by Whitney, released on June 3, 2016, on Secretly Canadian. It runs ten tracks and just under thirty minutes.[1]

The songs were written during a bleak winter in Chicago by Max Kakacek and Julien Ehrlich, both coming out of failed relationships and the end of their previous bands.[2] The record was tracked in 2015 at the Los Angeles home of Jonathan Rado of Foxygen, who co-produced it.[1]

Critics responded warmly, praising Ehrlich's falsetto and the warm, country-soul arrangements. The album holds an average of 83 on Metacritic and appeared on several 2016 year-end lists.[1][3]
