Biography
Whitney is a band from Chicago built around guitarist Max Kakacek and singing drummer Julien Ehrlich.[1] Kakacek previously played in Smith Westerns, which broke up in 2014, and Ehrlich drummed for Unknown Mortal Orchestra before joining that group.[1]
The pair wrote their debut album, Light Upon the Lake, during a bleak Chicago winter while recovering from failed relationships.[2] Early on they used the Whitney name as a persona, and the songs grew more personal around the time they wrote Golden Days.[2] The album came out in June 2016 on Secretly Canadian to wide acclaim.[1]
